IU Education Doctorate Recruits School and System Leaders Who Will Not Abandon Their Classrooms

School systems cannot improve if their best leaders disappear for three years. IU International University of Applied Sciences has restated the design of its education doctorate: research of doctoral standard, completed while the candidate continues to lead.

The programme combines research methods, education policy, curriculum design, assessment and organisational change. The thesis must address a problem the candidate is authorised to influence. Hannah Okafor, a school principal in Dubai, is investigating how teacher feedback cycles can be shortened without lowering marking quality.

Supervision is intensive: monthly research clinics, recorded methods workshops, and a named supervisor plus a second reader. Oral examinations are held online with independent examiners. The standard is doctoral, not honorary.

"We are not interested in theses that describe a school the candidate no longer works in," said the Director of Doctoral Education. "global students come to IU because they intend to stay and change the system they already serve."

Candidates receive training in research ethics, especially when researching their own staff or students. Conflicts of interest are declared and managed. Data stays under institutional and national rules that apply in Dubai.

The School of Education will publish a digest of completed theses so that other leaders among global students can reuse methods, not copy conclusions out of context.

Applications require a research outline, evidence of senior education practice, and academic writing at postgraduate standard. Preparatory short courses are available through the university's open academy for applicants who need to strengthen methods before enrolment.

For global students considering IU International University of Applied Sciences, the practical test is always the same: can you complete serious academic work without abandoning the life you already have in Dubai? The university's answer is yes — if you will do the reading, meet the deadlines, and accept that a degree is assessed, not gifted. Hannah Okafor, working as a school principal, is the kind of student this news is written for: employed, ambitious, and unwilling to treat relocation as a tuition they never agreed to pay.

Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services have been told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work. That means recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and library help that does not vanish at the end of one country's office hours. It also means IU will not pretend a programme is light. Applicants among learners in more than 150 countries who need a serious degree they can complete without leaving home or work should plan weekly hours before they accept an offer, and they should ask uncomfortable questions at the open webinars if a page on the website feels vague.

IU International University of Applied Sciences is a premier European university of applied sciences serving a worldwide digital campus. Founded in 1883, it will keep publishing news that is operational rather than ceremonial: what changed in a programme, who can apply, how assessment works, and how global students can get help. Optional on-campus study in Warsaw alongside fully online pathways. The next steps for readers of this article are on the programmes pages, the admissions portal, and the student handbook. Questions from Dubai and from every other city IU serves should go to the office named as author above — they are accountable for the claims in this piece.
